When choosing tiles for your kitchen it can be overwhelming due to the wide range of products that are available. I guess your choice will come down partly to the style of your kitchen or home; if modern, contemporary or edgy is what you are searching for read on for some hints and tips about selecting the right tiles to help create your dream kitchen.

Ideas Of What To Use In A Contemporary Kitchen

Contemporary designs tend to be sharp, ultra bold and can often incorporate industrial commercial styles. A huge trend in contemporary kitchen tiles is what is known as “Metro”; similar to what you might see used in the metro (or Tube station) these small format tiles are usually used against a contrasting colour, in this example here we see the Metropolitan range by Continental. These brick shaped tiles are available in black, white and cream for a simple yet striking design that is glossy and ultra modern,  the perfect choice for contemporary kitchen tiles that bounce the light around the room beautifully.

When thinking of a modern design simplistic clean lines work well, striking colours such as red looks fabulous teamed with a more neutral colour such as cream, beige or white. The image below shows the Silent Waves range by Villeroy & Boch, this top quality product incorporates a subtle wave that somehow adds that extra dimension. These particular tiles would work well against any modern kitchen where a high end tile is required.

Top quality tiles to create an edgy look.

For those looking for contemporary kitchen tiles but are wanting something less bold there are some lovely more natural ranges available. The Becker range by Cheston Ceramics are 100 x 100 mm tiles in a selection of darker and ligher shades but all in more natural tones such as browns, creams and blacks. Stick with the contemporary theme by choosing to tile a darker feature wall area (such as behind the hob) and pair this with a lighter shade from the same range. If you like the idea of using more natural shades but still want an edgy feel the fun thing about the Becker Range is that there are a selection of feature tiles available that have a “cut out” area that a chrome insert piece is available for, what an innovative way of creating something a bit different that brings in the industrial element of design!
